First
& foremost, decide upon an eye catching design. Surf
the web,. search through free clip-art or use your
own business logo for a dynamic, hard-hitting advertising asset. Think
within your budget. With as little as $30, a super bold image
can be achieved. |
|
|
Each colour is drawn & cut separately, so
keep colours, & thus equipment, to a minimum. |
|
|
Scan a photo of your vehicle, or download a
picture from the manufacturer's website. Re-size your design to fit
the picture of your vehicle, copy and paste it as a transparent image over
the pic of your vehicle & edit as you see fit, experimenting with
colours & sizes. The end result will be a flat mock-up of your
vamped up vehicle. |
|
|
At this stage you have the option of passing your
design to
professional sign writers to be enlarged and reproduced in self adhesive,
cut or printed vinyl. They will return the finished graphics to you in a
premasked and easy to apply format.
Depending on the complexity of your design, this may only cost
around $20. |
|
|
Or
follow our step by step instructions and do it yourself. (Don't forget to
send us a picture of the end result!) |
|
|
Purchase
a sheet of self-adhesive vinyl in your chosen colour. If your
design is more than one colour, each will have to be cut separately and
you will need a sheet in each colour. It should be noted that at some
stage either you, or a subsequent purchaser will want to remove the design
without also removing the paint; The cheaper the vinyl, the harder
this will be. The best quality vinyl can be removed from a vehicle up to
eight years after application without damage to paintwork. You
will also need application tape to lift the vinyl and apply it to your
car. You can buy these cheaply from your local signmaker. |
|
|
Draw
your image carefully on to the vinyl, minimising waste since the excess
can't be used again. Then cut the outline of your image and any
details to expose the car base colour, through the vinyl only,
leaving the mounting paper behind it intact. Weed or remove the waste
vinyl leaving behind the coloured image to be transferred to the car. At
this stage the translucent application paper is applied to the face of the
coloured vinyl with moderate
pressure and when this is next peeled back it will carry with it your cut
vinyl coloured image with sticky side out,
which can then be applied to the car.
