Dietary Disinhibition
Dietary disinhibition describes a lack of control over eating, which may or may not be linked with other areas of impulse control. Basically, we’re talking about people who will frequently overeat, may eat fast, without fully tasting or experiencing food and may (but not necessarily) be obese.
Some people do use dietary disinhibition as a form of self abuse and in terms of Transactional Analysis, dietary disinhibition may be associated with the injunction “I must not exist”.
Research obviously shows that body mass index and waist circumference are higher in people with higher levels of dietary disinhibition.
