Society says things like "listen to your mother" and "mother knows best." You heard those phrases and absorbed them as you were growing up.

Like hell she does! May be the thought that runs around in your head … but then you start to feel guilty because after all, she IS your mum. Isn't one of the ten commandments "Honour thy father and thy mother"?

Undeniably, but isn't the first commandment of motherhood that every mother has a responsibility to raise a happy, confident child?

Kids think in a magical way. People are either good or bad. Angels or ogres. Mum brings food and warmth, so she must be good ... mustn't she?

We're brought up to believe our parents are infallible, but of course they aren't.
